Acting one's age is overrated, believe me. You do you, Drew.

I was just reflecting on Star Wars. I enjoy it enough but I'm no superfan, nor even a "fan" really. There have been what ... eleven movies? I've seen all of them but one (I haven't seen Solo). Of the ten I've seen, at least five are decidedly subpar, two are barely adequate, and I like three.

Because I'm crabby and totally a "Yeah, but...." guy, it irritates me that people get all jacked-up over May the 4th for SW, but forget the Kent State Shootings in 1970, the ignoring/forgetting of which says a lot about how we continue to let the dumpster fire that is this country rage.

I grew up with Star Wars, and I’m tired of it. I don’t mind the new movies for younger kids, but the way franchises are part of life now is just sort of weird. We’re similar in age and food was the same; New Jersey is 30% Italian ancestry and it was still mostly pizza & spaghetti joints. We went to a Mexican place called… The Mexican Place! Next to a video arcade. Those were the best days ever. Kicked Chuck E. Cheese’s rodent ass. The only Chinese food we had was La Choy Chow Mein from the can or on special occasions, there was a Polynesian restaurant called Lee’s Hawaiian Islander (still around! It’s a gaudy, lovely tiki bar that still serves pu-pu platter with a flaming blue glob of sterno on a lava rock in the middle!)

Paddleboarding looks like fun, and that turtle was cause for celebration. I love your videos and I’m jealous that you have such access to nature. I’m going to take a kayak class and start paddling around the Pine Barrens.

I didn’t see Star Wars till I was in college either, when a friend sat me down in a Library and forced me to watch all three. I think maybe they were something that you had to watch as a kid to experience the magic?

I do strongly remember the magic of the Chinese restaurant in Natchitoches, Louisiana, though. It must have had the same designer -- so elaborate! Yes, the food was heavy & fried but something about that huge menu or (depending on the time of day) endless buffet .. I dunno, to me it looked like a world of possibilities. 😁
